If you have a laptop or computer more than 10 years old where even Linux doesn't work well anymore, I invite you to give it another life with Haiku.
Your 15 year old computer will boot faster than any current computer. The spirit of BeOS is still alive in Haiku.

I have a 14 years old Mac book pro still working with recent software (for doing music: Ableton, Arturia plugins).
Haiku is an amazing system. I actually played around with their C API and it was suprisingly easy to do shared memory segments and message passing (they used some mailbox mechanism).
