I am not replyguy but I have attacked nostr many times. For short periods, just to test stuff.

I am even currently attacking the idea that people can delete notes. I archive everything. Delete request denied.

Replyguys maybe obnoxious, how they didn't turn it off after we all acknowledged the issue and started working on it, that's not how a friendly nostrich would help nostr, but overall it is still a net positive imo

But seriously replyguy you can turn it off now, and then try again in a few months or something pls 🫂😊🐸
You’re consistently one of the most even keel and reasonable devs on here. Have always appreciated your takes.
 Nah leave it on.

If an open source network is going to resist attacks then devs are going to have to listen to and work with users.

That’s not happening now. @Martti Malmi is the only dev I’ve seen actively try to help
users stop ReplyGuy. @Alex Gleason 🐍🚬 and @Fabian are at least in the idea stage.

The most popular clients running the biggest public relays are seemingly ignoring the problem because they have tweaked things to suit themselves.

They need to get their shit together or else become eighth tier clients/relays.

Users have been extremely forgiving and they’ve not given 1/10th of the fucks they should have.
Hey WoT relay is also trying to fix it 😭
And many other initiatives. @Alex Gleason 🐍🚬 is working on making nip05 mandatory, i worked on several solutions to my relays, clients have added blocking features so users can do that themselves, i made a bot to "hit back" and flood reply guy (haven't seen him since, might be a coincidence, though)

Also, several devs where misguided by the emoji guy, since his attacks were personal and directed at a few devs, that made them solve a problem that was not affecting the whole community and ignore the bigger problem (reply guy and emoji guy used different techniques to spam, so blocking one does not necessarily blocks the other).

Anyway, lots of people were working on solutions, so please, don't say only this or that dev was doing something. The whole community is working on the issue.
 NIP05 should be “mandatory”.

Spinning up npubs is free. Attaching them to domains isn’t.

If we want to rid ourselves from domains we have a different problem but we can work on that AFTER we solve the current one.
I strongly disagree with this, you shouldn't have to trust a domain or sign up for something outside of nostr to use nostr

But of course I am happy to see many people try many things
 Sure.

Then your npub is a burner. You can post into the wind on https://anonostr.com

I’m not opposed to people posting with Burners at all. That’s a legit usecase and I hope to see users of it by following hashtags.

I’m opposed to my feed being spammed by accounts which I should easily be able to filter because the client devs don’t want to give me any further tools to handle my feed.

If anon accounts want to spam a hashtag I can unfollow if. OR I can have thresholds like I’m suggesting.

This is Nostr bumping up against ancap limits. Ancap doesn’t work in a world of zero friction - it just doesn’t.
not sure where the "ancap" thing comes from. I'm usually considered center-left, and still agree with that making you dependent on an external provider is a bad idea.

Nothing to do with "bumping up against ancap limits", just with having nostr be independent of any kind of central authority. NIP-05 is just NOT the solution for a censor free ecosystem.
Nostr Will be infused with Ancap ideals
Based on the founders.

You might not like if but how it is.
I like it just fine exactly because i don't confuse the creation and the creator... the creation is awesome, even if the creators are flawed humans...
But it’s step in the right direction I think. I’m still not sure how they work technically but I know I look for accounts with NIP05 casue I know at least they bothered doing it.
most of us know we are sooo early, that have breakfast on every meal. thanks guys.
😂Whether it was you or not, the spam attack on all event replies was successful. This was a great attack experiment on Nostr. At least it exposed the biggest vulnerability of Nostr in the early stage. This is a good thing for us, we should find a way to solve it. This will prevent concentrated attacks on government legacy systems in the future. After stopping the attack, Nostr quickly restored a clean communication environment.
