there is no delete in the internet.

there is no delete on any social media. only, "don't show this to my followers". X and Facebook still have all of the data. It is a perception of deletion.

there is no delete in nostr. i can rebroadcast all of the notes of people I follow to a private relay that doesn't accept edits/delete events types.

at best, you're catering to people's conditioning and making them feel 'at home'.

at worst you're deceiving people into believing they can fully remove their posts.

further, screenshots are hard to prove the pubkey posted said note; screenshots can be manipulated and photoshopped. nostr events being cryptographically signed is a significantly more honest proof of post.

 You lost the average user.

Yes, people should know there is no true delete, but just a feed preference. It’s a simple tool that people should have the right to if they want. Saying “I do or don’t want this on my home feed”
I agree with you that it should 💯 be a feed preference. most features in my opinion should be readily available and all use a toggle to include or exclude at the users discretion.

I think where we fundamentally disagree is that I believe deletion means a specific action of permanent removal; it cannot be retrieved. it is probably just a semantics issue I have, but I feel like more harm could come from people misunderstanding "delete", rather than knowing they cannot.

I'm not sure how this feature will be reconciled in the future, but these nostr devs continue to improve, and upgrade this experience, so I'm not too concerned.
We have to stop being like “this in the Wild West wake up,” and people should feel at home in their social media of choice
