India and Bangladesh brace for year's first cyclone

Bangladesh and India are preparing for the arrival of cyclone Remal, the first cyclone of the year, with wind speeds of up to 120 km/h. The Bangladesh weather office has raised its storm danger signal to the highest level and has started evacuating people from coastal areas. Nearly 60,000 people have been moved to shelters in Bangladesh. India has deployed its disaster relief force in West Bengal and flights have been suspended in Kolkata. The landfall of cyclone Remal is expected to occur between 11 PM and 1 AM. The low-lying coasts of Bangladesh and India have experienced frequent severe storms in recent years.
