I was hoping we could avoid the complexity of configuring a local http server and such to complete such a task, on top of the encryption and such since it's all local.  

 can it not just use the standard nip-42 flow? 

 There is a spec for a android signer which doesn't use nip46. Perhaps thete could be an alternative for desktop?
