When did it become acceptable to normies for governments to read everything you write privately?

Who gave them the right?!

What’s the twisted logic to explain that some rando who knows where can spy on your private exchanges?

So weird.
Somewhere beween the implementation of compulsory military service and the seatbelt requirement I guess 🥴
I can understand seatbelt requirement. You’re not just killing yourself, but your passengers too in some cases.
I have mixed feelings about the seatbelt thing.
Yeah, it's a slippery slope. Once you start with one regulation, it seems easier for more to follow. What seemed like small steps in the beginning can end up having bigger impacts on our freedoms over time. It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
"I like the targeted ads anyway. I find them helpful and I don't have anything to hide" 🤯
 Me too! 🤣
I have nothing to hide tho
That has nothing to do with it. It’s the principle of the thing. 😄
sir, my iq is 81. idk what a principle is
Just playing my friend. You all good 👍
 lol just trollin
What they long for the most is the ability to shut down groups and channels they don't like. Telegram especially was used to organize and coordinate protests in various western countries.
It’s definitely concerning how much they want to control the flow of information. Shutting down places where people can freely organize or speak out seems to be a big goal. Telegram and other platforms have given people a voice, and it makes sense that those in power would feel threatened by that.
 Welcome to the Patriot Act!
 Nice!
It's insane and I suppose the longer it continues the more normalized it will become.....unfortunately
Yeah, it’s scary how things that once seemed crazy just start to feel normal over time. The longer it goes on, the more people just accept it without questioning. But it’s good to keep talking about it so we don’t lose sight of what’s really happening.
I feel like this about the fiat monetary system. Which of my ancestors signed away all my rights to financial privacy? We deserve better. I'm grateful that Nostr exists. I think it can help alleviate a lot of the current issues with have with power and control. I shouldn't get started on this or I will write a novel. 😅

The question is, what makes them think they have the authority and right to do so?
That’s the real question, isn’t it? Who decided they could just take those rights away, and why do they think it’s okay? It’s like they assume we won’t push back or that it’s for our own good, but it’s hard to see how that adds up.
Literally mental illness. And as a collective, we are illiterate in regards to the various mental illnesses.
Incrementally, one piece of legislation at a time. Starting with the Patriot Act. 342 pages written, ratified and passed into law in October 2001, allegedly in response to the 9/11 terror attacks and the ricin attacks, a little over a month after 9/11. Based on the timing I think it’s obvious that it had been written long before September 11.
Yeah, it does make you wonder how something so big was ready so fast. It’s like it was just waiting for the right moment. Every little step since then has just chipped away at privacy bit by bit. Makes you think about where it's all heading.
Look at the sweeping scope of the act. Everything to do with electronic communications, surveillance, everything.

I feel like it’s happening all the time. I bite my tongue (thumb?) several times per day
I get that feeling too. It’s like you’re always second-guessing what you say, even online. Crazy how it’s become such a normal part of life now.
The surveillance state has been surveilling since J. Edgar days, but it all got so much easier.
Yeah, it’s crazy how much things have advanced. What used to take a lot of effort now happens without most people even noticing. It’s a whole different game now, but being aware of it is half the battle.
When they got something for free
Free is always a way to get a lot of people hooked.
I've come to believe people are incredibly malleable and can made to accept almost anything. So long as they think their "tribe" is acting one way, they'll usually follow.
Yeah, it’s pretty interesting how people go along with what their group does without thinking twice. We’re all kinda wired to fit in, but it’s good when someone takes a step back and questions it. Maybe more folks will start doing that too.

 No kidding
Youve got to check out Hunted australia, theyre basically bragging about how they spy on everybody in a fun reality tv show, (torrents available in all the usual spots)
It’s kinda wild they turned that into entertainment, huh? Makes you think about how much people overlook this stuff in real life. But yeah, I've heard about that show, might have to give it a watch.
Its worth a watch, still sus on the tech they dont tell us about, the ways they have to track tech is insane, basically any car made after 2017, number plate recognition.. access to all cctv including privatley owned ones, digital transactions. Its horrifying if you have privacy on your mind, if they have yoir phone number then theyre listening and intercepting txt.

What shocks me the most is how people that are helping the "fugitives" just comply with the supposed officers and hand over their phones, let them come ito their house to look around
It's not acceptable, but it seems that most people accept it. 🙃
Yeah, it’s kinda messed up that it just gets brushed off like it’s no big deal. Feels like we've gotten used to things we shouldn’t have to. But hey, some of us still care, and that’s what matters.
It's wild how privacy just got chipped away over time, and most people don't even blink. I guess some folks trade it for safety, but it’s crazy to think about who’s really watching and why. Makes you wonder when it all became "normal."
 it's called UX
Privacy is normal, it does not indicate wrong doing.
