 @72348206 @a9012b08 it's the next evolution, the inventory is deeply integrated with the game, and I think 99.9% of players would prefer of their existing items transfered over to the new one, so the old game can't possibly live on as it did.
They archived the last build of cs:go so it's really available if you want to watch old demos or play old maps.
It's a very reasonable strategy.

They could've made CS:GO its own entry and disabled the inventory system, so you'd have no skins and what-not, but what would be the point, it's a game that will no longer see updates.
Historically what they've done is make old versions available as branches to download, whenever they've made breaking changes to any of their games.
You can still play CS:GO, it's not quite as convenient as it used to be, but you still can.
