Ah okay. Well, NixOS is Linux, but easy to setup the whole system with a config file. You can then add synapse in the config and it installs it and it is ready to go. 

 I'd need to nuke my whole system or spin up another VM. ☹️ 

 Ah, yes that would not be helpful. Nix is also a package manager and does have containers. However, that sounds like that is not what you need right now.
