“The concept of Anarchy is the concept of Private Property. The extent to which the State exists is the extent to which it violates property rights. The State is not a productive institution because it does not receive its money voluntarily, it receives it coercively.” - @saifedean with @walker

Curious how you'd square this with one of the most famous quotes from the father of modern Anarchism, PJ Proudhon: "Property is theft."

I do think there's room for nuance there, and haven't found him to be quite as extreme in that direction as the words suggest, but then, to equate anarchy with nothing other than private property seems pretty extreme in the other direction. How do you come into the property? You might argue proof of work, but when we're talking about many natural resources, that "work" is often little more than taking steps to deprive others of accessing it. Something that the state puts quite a bit of effort into doing, either for itself, or for those who pay tribute to it in exchange for its assistance with defending their claims.

I'm anything but a red and black flag waving ansoc these days, but I do think there's a bit of room for ansocs and ancaps to learn to stop talking past each other on some of this stuff, as I've absolutely derived value from both sides of the one big camp.
