zaps and merch sales have covered half of damus payroll this month. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who keeps zapping and supporting Damus when they can 🫂 I have a new respect for people trying to bootstrap companies. Hopefully I can keep building freedom tech as long as possible… but it ain’t a walk in the park 😅
Define “a walk in the park” — sometimes walking is spooky 😉 We appreciate you!
Let’s y’all zap Will ⚡️⚡️⚡️
How can I zap?
Try this on the version you have before trying the TestFlight version. I think it may work nostr:note1lpfk9q2c06xnfu5d6gd0r385cuwjlka2ue88ywkvg6u3wz2nt83qdn6s4x
@jb55 you should charge a one time fee for Damus. I’d pay it gladly. It would help build revenue. Even if it’s just $4.99. If you don’t want Apple involved, you could even do it for the relay.. one time fee of 18,500 sats for write access on the relay.
Never liked that model. I think it would be cool if you could buy seasonal flair for your profile, limited edition skins, etc. its how modern games are sustainable and its optional, fun, and not too grifty.
Who would you buy them from though? That’s the issue. Could require a proof of burned coins #bitcoin transaction on-chain to generate skin. Randomness of the tx hash determines the color scheme… Haha!
You would buy them from damus to help support client dev, what do you mean?
I guess that’s okay too 🤷♂️ Was just suggesting a decentralized option that doesn’t rely on a central item provider, with gacha game mechanics powered by cryptography.
That way you actually own those special additions to your profile… truly unique/rare and not able to be generated by some third party. CS go skins work like this.
Well they would be nostr notes signed by the damus account
where do we go to buy merch?
The issue of sustainability for Nostr developers will continue to haunt us. Will is already doing a good job of that. I'm not a programmer, and I know very little about open source. I've been learning about the evolution of Linux recently, and the early financial situation of open source developers was very bad. Looking back at the development process of Bitcoin, it seems that the only companies that can steadily make profits are exchanges and mining machines. What can Nostr learn from the evolution of Bitcoin and Linux?
Thank you for your work. I'll be supporting every time I can. 💜🧡⚡🤙🏻
U got dis 💪
This will show my ignorance, but should I be sending you, Damus profile, or the Damus relay sats? How often and what amount? I realize this is dependent on the individual to decide at this point in time, but for the not-so-techy plebs it’s difficult to know where to begin. Similar to donation pages giving options/suggested amounts and frequency, it may be beneficial to set something up that takes the thinking out of the equation for a pleb like me.
How about bootstrapping companies while being the sole parent caregiver of 325 pound severely autistic child who is dangerous when having meltdowns, non potty trained and requires 24-7 care all thru a pandemic🙂 My son Jonathan loves your work, he is an incredible person as well. I was thinking about the blocksize war and what really holds bitcoin together to have an immutable core protocol while having BIPs at the same time is there are a lot of humans who have a spirit to fight for what is right, what is just, what is fair and equitable and things such as these. That same spirit will cause NOSTR to soar as well🙂
I didn't realise you were bootstrapping. Dealing with financial stress while building a company is a diff ballgame. I was under the impression you were funded by fiatjaf fund through Jack, HRF funds and opensats. What's the cost contributors for running a nostr client like this ? And what's the runway like ? What happens when funds deplete ? Are you heading for a revenue based model early in game or will you be raising funds again through grants / equity?
