Why do people say you control your own data on Nostr? You don't don't control your own data unless you run your own relay and host your own media.
How many users are actually hosting their own relay and media? Very few.

Is it possible to get censored?
It's still possible to get censored unless your run your own relay getting censored is much hard on Nostr.
Theoretically it is possible. All relays would have to agree at once to delete your content.

#Nostr
Because there are local relays. E.g. Nostr relay for android: https://github.com/greenart7c3/Citrine

"Theoretically it is possible. All relays would have to agree at once to delete your content." - Very unlikely scenario (e.g. I use more than 20 relays), but it just means you posted something horrendous and should be censored - I would call it moderation.
But somehow all of my relays lost my metadata event and my displayname have changed to the previous one 🤪. Use paid relays if you don't want your events to be deleted for reduction of storage costs.
Yes, I’m also struggling with this question. Because running a relay and a media host also seem harder with nostr. I run Pleroma over on the Activity Pub part of the fediverse. Spinning it up was less than an hour of work, and I feel like I have way more control of my stuff, and understand much better where it goes and how it gets stored and how I could move it, than I do on nostr.
