I do think it's possible to take that mindset for big vacations to exotic places, also. Best of both worlds. Get the experience AND save some money.

The cost isn’t what matters, it is the engagement and new experiences… TOGETHER!
And they can be totally mundane things, like getting the oil changed or exploring the back side of a grocery store. They just have to be real and you have to be engaged.
We have taken some expensive trips but they aren’t normal vacations. They are multi-month adventures with a specific family goal. And every day is an adventure.
Yeah, keep it simple. Camping does reduce you to the basics you really need.
