Did you have a nice time at Tory Conference?
 @960618d0

TransActual attended an LGBTQ+ fringe event at the Conservative Party Conference, which was hosted by LGBT Foundation. Next week we will be at a similar event at the Labour Party conference.

As an org working to protect trans people’s current legal protections, it’s essential that we talk to politicians.

TransActual’s attendance at these events should not be taken as an indication of support for either of these parties or as an indication that we condone their policies.

See, I disagree very strongly. They have made their thoughts on trans folk very clear and the protections you speak of they have loudly said they will take away. Driving trans folk away from the NHS, claiming they're sex offenders and such. Did you bring any of this up? Did you challenge anyone about this?
 @960618d0 these are things that we do bring up and do challenge, yes.
 @099f68f7

Specifically, which Tory conference members or political representatives did you speak to about all this?
 @960618d0 the ones that turned up at the fringe event, which was…not many. We didn’t take a register but we can say that very few of them were MPs.

One key thing we try to do when talking to policy makers is to stress that we’re human beings and that like any other people, we ought to be able to live our lives safely, in dignity and with proper access to healthcare.
 @960618d0 We speak to them about the increases in transphobia and hate crime fuelled by the current political and media climate, the impact of health inequalities and the need for all trans people (including trans migrants) to be safe.
