"Production" is an actual thing onto itself. You try a few runs because the processes need to be invented/test/fixed the same way you do to the actual product. 

 I would've went for the word "prototype" myself. Think that's what you were going for. 

 Nope, these are actual production tests. It's coming out of a production line. The line needs to be tested, optimized, etc...
