@bf9c14e9 Not when i buyed it on release :(
@a9012b08 Yeah that's true :( I stopped playing it when they started to try hiding community servers, I haven't played since the very first main menu design...
@bf9c14e9 My exact same scenario. I know for sure there is people working harder than than ever to democratize games, push for linux gaming, open source etc working at valve.

The split between the part of the company who want's to make a change and the part who benefit from not making it is becoming bigger and bigger. And that's going to be an issue sooner than later.
@a9012b08 Yes, when Half-Life 2 released I hated Valve so much for forcing online DRM on it, I had preordered HL2 and it ruined my evening because I couldn't activate and play it, eventually I used to be very enthusiastic about Valve in the late 2000s, but that's turned around to a sort of love-hate thing in recent years for much of the same reasons as you listed.
@bf9c14e9 Is infuriating. I don't know how much the people literally changing the industry forever pushing for Linux and the people making this choices can co exist. The release of Portal and HL RTX is also really worrying. Two fantastic remakes that are not enjoyable by most people because they slapped bad ray tracing on top to force you buy an RTX card.
@a9012b08 They don't even look good imho 🤷
It's just marketing so Valve can say they're still relevant in the software market.
@bf9c14e9 It was so easy, right? Put the new cool models into the new cool source engine and release it.

Am i the crazy one or what?
@a9012b08 Seriously, I would love a HL2 remaster in Source 2, one that makes it a seamless experience across the main game and both episodes (meaning you don't need to finish one game and start the other, they just continue without pause), with no need for useless ray tracing.
@bf9c14e9 Exactly. The portal RTX light have no artistic intention. At all. It looks cool in some shots. But is not the same place. It does not even have the same atmosphere. Same with quake.

Film studios spends years with thousands of people working on 3D ray traced animation for achieving specific looks because, guess what? Bending the laws of physics with something designed to imitate the laws of physics is HARD.

So here we have it. Quake in the glorious Miami light and mood.

@a9012b08 Quake 2 is my favourite Quake game, RTX sucks all the fun out of it. It's all just marketing. Slap some ray tracing on it 👍 take five, team.
