The numbers I was quoting are Australian, but I doubt the US is very different.

Labradors and swimming pools harm more children than pitbulls and rifles. 

Pitbulls and Shepherds ARE sterotyped as owned by overcompensaters, and there's some truth to that, but its far from the full picture. Pitbulls I've met have been gentle and well-disciplined.

Genetics matters, but for acts of violence culture matters more, be it genus Homo or Canis.
