I've made the final decision to skip all bitcoin events, even the smaller ones. Everything feels compromised! Until organizers stop taking money from spooks or promoting VCs, there's no point in attending. Sad times. Nobody stays humble nowadays.
The point when things become too big they also become centralized and corrupt. Springs of humble bitcoiners like us will appear here and there to continue pushing plebs forward. Currently the market for conferences is the big dumb money (politics, VCs, etc), not the small plebs i would say
Fair. We organized the "first" one which really was about development and the project. I went to conferences in the next years. But at some point it was recycled content from the same speakers, with ever unaffordable prices. I could not even afford the entrance to the conference where I live any more. I was tempted by honey badger, but could not justify the expense for what it is. A non-commercial developer oriented unconference would be good, because there's still a few problems to solve.
You should run events. There are enough midwesterners who would show up and learn, teach and party.
Underground meetups 😁
In da burbs would be kew
You gotta start running it😁
The thought has seriously crossed my mind more then once…
Make it the South burbs, for us downstate folks.
Just Bitcoin, a couple of cypherpunks, a raspberry pi and some weed. Sounds like a great plan. 👏
And beer 😁
