 Hey yall 👋
Check out mapstr.xyz
It's a nostr based website I built to allow Nomads to pin locations they like (cafe, restaurant, money exchange whatever you like) to a map for other Bomads to use as recommendations. It's a site which goes hand in hand being a Nomad or travlleing in general. It's early days but I'd appreciate any feedback you have!

#travel #nomad #grownostr #freelance #remote #remotework #locationindependent
Wow cool! I can use it for my @traveltelly 📸🤙 Can help you future just DM me. Always traveling and already 15 years a digital nomad🙏✈️
Be cool to have someone play with it and try create some markers and reviews and give some feedback. I'm sire in 15vyears you'll know a good place to tag when you see one!
Yeah I combine now my travel photo/videography with my art where I visit random cafe places to draw #artstr

And I already have a stock database of 15 years traveling. Try to find now most local places when I am somewhere 🙏
At the moment I just made the location able to accept current coordinates only so people didn't spam it too much but if you're really keen I could maybe allow access to tag any location for a select user like yourself. If you like it let's chat more about it.
Very cool. Is this using the geolocation NIP and is this interoperable with Yondar?
Just NIP 1 with geo tag and a mapstr tag. So not yet interoperable with other mapping apps. Other maps could grab mapstr notes though if they filter by mapstr npub. Perhaps a general location NIP would be good as then we can all share locations.
Let me know the nip/event type, I'll add support for it.
Just NIP 1 at the moment but would be good to create it's own NIP perhaps. What would be the benefit you of that over NIP1 s you think?
Yes, I think Event type 1 is the best place for it. A nip would be helpful to describe the format for location you're using - geohash flavor or lat/lon
Nice it has both geohash and lat lng. If I sent you the raw event data for an event would that help you create a NIP for it?
Great, there are a few different specs for geohashing - which one are you using? Sure, the event data would be helpful but I'm not planning to create a NIP for it.
I'll send you the spec later today. Perhaps I misunderstood.... when you said you'll add support for it what did you mean?
I mean nostraco.in will read the event and tag data and make it available on a map. If I like the spec, might also create events with the same format.
 Cool idea.

Been thinking about this idea and why I find it cool even if location reviews on maps is not new or groundbreaking.

Most location pins and reviews will come from fellow nostriches, and with NOSTR still being the niche it is, that colors the type & quality of posts.

Maybe that's how rating and review systems get better. When I'm looking for a vibe or experience, i don't really care about the rating or opinions of the world, or at least not as much compared to the recommendations of my tribe(s).
 Addendum:
It's also built for nostr. So it is groundbreaking as a baseline ;)
When I built it I had in mind the reviewers on Google Maps app. There are people there reviewing for the sake of it but what if those creators had a way to get paid for their reviews ? Surely people would want to create reviews and get paid for it. BTC or even USDT for the non Nostr users on BTC rails is possible. Not sure about the USDT as US may take it down at some point but its technically possible AFAIK.
Yeah good point.... what will the good people of Nostr tag? For me it's mostly cafes and food but as long as you're in the current place I allowed anyone to tag anything. I wanted to do that to restrict somewhat what people could tag but that may change. I call it 'proof of walk'😉
But also it would be possible to tag a shop which accepts BTC or even grab this info from various API like that which BTC Map uses. This app would allow reviews in top so an added bonus as well as the chance to earn zaps for your contribution...
Congrats on the launch! Definitely considering using kind other than 1, also welcome to publish your app on nostrapp.link

 Nice!
I'd love to have a map of parking spots, similar to park4night, but FOSS.
Good idea, also a map of water points where you can top up your tanks
 It looks cool.
 わーお❗️🙌 Cool 👏👏👏
Hello fellow nomad. I checked it out and see that the interface is quite raw. What about just adding the possibility of saving data on nostr in Open street map? Maybe could do that forking the original project?
Thanks for the feedback but I didn't quite understand... save any new locations from this app to OSM? At one point I was pulling ODM data but it was slow. I'll add it back in but will add in as layers not by default as I had it. Can pull a lot of data from OSM.
I must have expressed myself poorly.

What I mean is:

Why not fork Osmand and then add the functionality to publish reviews on Nostr for the fork?

OSM already allows publishing places for everyone to find later on and saving your favorite places locally with a note.

I have been contributing for the last few years, but adding the option to publish reviews on Nostr would be the cherry on top of what is currently available.
Ah I see. What's that built in? Reason I built this was partially to learn some new JS tech for my dev career. But I see what you mean.
 Mostly Java.

Downloaded, I'll check it out! I had previously pulled data from Overpass to put on the map also. Very useful data there. 7000 odd locations which accepts BTC also which is cool.
 cool brow!!👍
