But if you're asking for a job you should probably have a piece of paper that shows some proof of work. I just told dude if he's to lazy to do that I don't want him working here.
Agreed, resumes are important. Though, I would say that the main point of a resume is to pass the initial filtering process and get a face-to-face talk with the potential employer. That back and forth talk/probing is the real hiring procedure.
I will add that the resume is also useful for the interviewer when he/she plans questions ahead of the hiring interview.
