 Good morning, #nostriches!

For those that are newer follows of mine, you might not know that I live in an RV trailer and that I built my own solar power system for the trailer. (It's functional, but not "finished.") With the cooler weather in my part of the world, I've started up using my S9 to generate heat and hash in place of using my electric fireplace. Surprisingly, the S9 seems to heat up the trailer better than the electric fireplace at a lower wattage. This is super useful!

In order to run the miner, I've got it powered through the solar power system. My system is not fancy. I built it on a budget and I really need another, larger battery pack in addition to the 5 kWh pack that I've got currently. However, it works very well, and last night I finally configured the system to work exactly as I want it to, in that the system will run off the battery until it reaches the low-voltage setpoint (49V on the nominal "48V" 16S battery pack) and then it uses utility power to start charging the battery and run the loads on the system. (I can also configure it to start remote-start capable generator if I had one, and eventually, I will.) Then, as sun comes up and hits the panels, that power is used to charge the batteries and the loads. It took some fiddling with the settings to get it to work as I wish, but now it works and I'm super stoked!

I love talking about building off-grid systems, so if you've got questions, let me know! 😁

 That's super cool!
 Awesome sauce!
 Yes! 😁
Someday I hope to have my own sovereign power systems
 You will.
Most definitely! Was looking into having in done this year but…
We gotta get a new roof first…
And we decide to push that back at least a year as the roof isn’t in that bad of shape for being ~25yrs old…
Yup. It's not cheap to do a whole roof, but... If Trump gets elected and puts that stupid tarrif on China, it will drive up prices of all solar stuff.
Yeah it definitely isn’t… I’m not too worried about the initial investment into solar…
It tends to be worth it, but it always grinds my gears to have to pay more for dumb reasons like tarrifs.
Do you have any experience with solar water heaters?
Gm beave. Super cool. Would love to pick your brain more on the solar power thing when I get my own place situated 🤘🏼
That’s pretty sweet. What percent of your power usage comes from solar vs utility power?
Right now, up to the battery pack capacity (plus some extra on solar during the day, obviously) keeping it simple. It's harder to calculate since I don't have the whole trailer running through the system, so I can't log it precisely yet. That's getting pushed back to next year due to personal circumstances pushing me to move.
Well, moving sucks, good luck with that. And may a giant battery find you in the future 🤙
It will, for sure. Another 15+kWh at least with a 304AH 16S pack and a 200A BMS.

There are some things that I convert fiat into useful goods that increase my sovereignty.
Converting fiat into becoming more sovereign is what we all should be doing. You are going the extra mile by converting sunlight into heat and sats. Keep on keeping on! The beave is winning.
Yup. This is why I say I'm not a BTC maxi. Otherwise, I'd stack more sats.
What is the wattage of the S9? You using AC to power it or direct from the DC? Thinking about a similar idea for a cabin I am working on but there is no public utility to tie into. Would be a battery bank to power it when the sun doesn't shine.
