@bb1c524f I think about shit like this *every time* my friends show me a video with the latest cool DIY gardening hack. Pallets are drenched in antifungals and insecticides, oh my god why are those people using them for soil contact? You want to plant strawberries in a gutter, that’s cute but what did they powder coat the aluminum with? It’s all horrible, and I usually just stay quiet.
@12e2f193 Yes! I'm all for reclaiming and reusing, but a little knowledge and the willingness to use it can go a long way.
@bb1c524f I think my three key reuse questions are: is this for food contact? Is it for skin contact? Is the diy technique accelerating any chemical reactions? Like, heavy metal enamels are a horrible policy choice, but they don’t hurt consumers if you’re just drinking the contents of the bottle. But if you’re reusing it by submerging it in water for some reason, or you’re melting the glass - then you’re increasing entropy for the paint. Does that make sense?
