i don’t see nostr catching on with the younger generations, but i’d love to be proved wrong! i do know platforms for older folk is crucial for a balanced online environment. that’s why facebook os popular with the older folk right now!
Platforms come and go, but protocols have the ability to live on and thrive. nostr:nevent1qqs2ddmeu48v9jnmduu9emlel5lfsu2g2hxzmu70pnv2qmdwu5cvwgspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsygxy8wa43chxhsheg4t4sftldwjn9yg8h48gyaqx3s5nd35anxqt05psgqqqqqqsq6arz2
okay?
Friendster, MySpace, etc. were all filled with younger generations. Those platform died. Nostr as a protocol has the chance to be dozens and dozens of different platforms. If one does, it doesn't really matter.
key words being “has the chance” i want to give it a chance but just like the google+ social media, there’s a point where you need to be able to safety critique the viability.
I was a huge advocate and active user of Google+. The small community here is very similar to it's levels of engagement. Google+ failed when Google decided to stop working on it. That can't happen here in the same capacity. If Vitor stops working on Amethyst another client developer can take over or be given the opportunity to shine. Because of this open nature, I believe Nostr has a greater chance than any other social competitor that's arose over the last decade.
why are protocols not susceptible to dying? i feel as if we shouldn’t always act as if nostr is absolutely flawless all the time and shouldn’t be criticized. again, my point on it never catching on with the younger generation still stands, but also protocols can definitely be a hit with older millennials and up! that’s okay too
I criticize Nostr all of the time 😂 When something is janky or I don't like it, I complain. I complain because I want Nostr to succeed. With centralized platforms, complaining can only go so far. You or anyone else cannot fix it. You have to wait for the company to do it. With Nostr, anyone can build or fix my complaints! It's all in the open. Sure, Nostr is far from perfect, but I can surely see the potential and I'm willing to deal with numerous pains in the ass while it's gets built, because I feel it's worth it.
It won't right now it's to hard for normies to mange. And people are to impatient to load up. People don't like it. And plus the only thing that brings people in is the zaps but you find out that a pure scam asap. So it turn a lot people off. Even tho there are some amazing things with #Nostr
Facebook old folks 🤣 ahhhah sorry 😆 What is nostr trying to solve is something I think about.
facebook is for old people
🤣
you must be old
it will over time. it doesn't need to now. it takes time to understand something entirely new.
it really is not that much of a difficult concept to understand.
In fact, TikTok is also an old app, TikTok was formerly known as musical.ly, TikTok's parent company acquired it in 2017. musical. lywas founded in 2014 and is intended for distribution outside of China. musical.ly was modeled after another homegrown app, Kuaishou. The company was founded in 2011, the earliest is to do GIF pictures, in 2013 to transform to do short video, and at that time to use it are rural residents, the whole style is very soil, not recognized by the mainstream society. All innovation starts from the fringes and subcultures, and all mainstream starts from non-mainstream. If you look at the history of technological revolutions, they all start at the edge. And all the apps, movies, animations, and music that young people like are actually created by the elderly and middle-aged. Nostr is not necessarily going to succeed, nor is it necessarily going to be the future. But one way you can judge whether this new technology has a future is whether it provides a need that current products do not meet. What Nostr offers that wasn't offered before is decentralization giving everyone the right to free expression, which is at the heart of this protocol. Based on what kind of trees will grow in the future, we need to solve one problem now, and then solve another problem, and keep solving problems and building before we can find the next super popular killer app. This is the nature of technological innovation. Mimicking Twitter, TikTok, and instagram is not the future of Nostr, but it's all a learning process. We believe in the future of Nostr and that is why we are here.
What do you think is “missing”? If the discussion here, hypothetically, covered a wide range of topics and cultures, is there a user-experience issue you see that would push away teenagers?
nostr feels like one of the few places left where you’re not being programmed by the algorithm there’s also a calm that can still be felt here
I imagine that as compelling tools are built, younger users will use them. They already use so many different apps for various activities that it will be second nature navigating their way around the ecosystem & they'll likely appreciate the cohesiveness. Password management across their 15 daily apps is the bane of their existence. 😂
What do you believe the young people are looking for that nostr can’t or won’t provide?
If there are enough useful apps built on nostr with good UI then its probable people won't even know they are using nostr protocol. Its sort of like saying the internet won't catch on with younger people in the 80's.
This! 👆 No one says they are a tcp/ip user. No one REALLY even says they are an Internet user anymore. They just use things on those protocols and technologies. Nostr will melt away as the industrial base layer of it all and people will be using whatever service. In time saying you’re using Nostr will seem weird.
