She might do great, it just seems like there was probably someone already living in California and registered there who could have filled the role. Instead of uprooting her for an abbreviated term. Like you have said, she has been around politics but not in it, her real experience seems to be labor unions. Time will tell.

@a2f3726b well and β€œuprooted” here is complicated. Senator needs a DC apartment (already arranged) and a CA apartment (might still own?) and then spend all their CA time in hotels away from said apartment anyway because it’s a big state

The article I listened to said she owns a home in California but it sounded like someone was living in it.

In the end I don't live there and it's not my representative. I'd ask the same question if I woke up and our governor appointed someone from out of state.

@a2f3726b it’s a reasonable Q that I’m sure will be asked in state (though I suspect mostly also in bad faith). I do wonder if it’s different in CA where (it seems to me anyway) people are constantly moving in and out (dammit now I want a burger). I mean, 15ish years living in LA and (briefly) Santa Cruz and I don’t think anyone once asked me where I went to high school

As long as the person appointed represents the whole state it shouldn't matter. I personally would want someone living in my state, seeing everything first hand.

After heading the largest union in California she should have support.

@a2f3726b not really expecting her to be in the senate in 4 years much less 24 (yikes). but I think she’s got at least as good a shot at doing some good as any of those other bozos

I'm not sure what she'll be able to do in less than 2 years. I don't see any first term Congress person or senator accomplish much. You have to spend time in the swamp to build alliances and political capital before you're relevant.

I can't wait to see though, maybe she'll change everything. John Fetterman couldn't get the dress code changed so I won't be holding my breath.
