Garden is getting closer to being put to bed. Got the fencing and fence posts pulled out today. Have a couple of 1-2” tree roots/stumps to dig out of the corners. Then a silage tarp going on until spring. I’ve read not to put on the tarp too early if there are going to be some warm days since it can be too hot for the soil microbes. We probably have a few 80F days left, should I wait until even cooler weather to tarp? #gardenstr #asknostr https://image.nostr.build/70447786237f5353de717f006711f30dd288a2b8978b01f1306a9d7b630ea2a3.jpg https://image.nostr.build/aae478df438a941461c20826e77d809994ed67c8e857c08110632b159ecf545f.jpg
Awesome work and so satisfying but do you find your legs aching after an hour or so?!
Luckily still young enough I don’t get the aches and pains yet lol
Enjoy it while it lasts 😂 hopefully for many years 🙏
I think eventually it may evolve into cinder block raised beds. My cousin built some for his garden and they look pretty darn good.
It's not a bad idea- I've been clearing beds on the allotment and I found a handy folding wooden panels which I'll use as a raised spot, the beds I've uncovered from the weeds I'm going to repopulate with fresh soil/manure, I don't actually know what I'm doing, I'm just learning and making it up as I go 😀

Tried to upload an image to show them but seem to be having trouble this morning 🌄

Looking good! Ready for a reset!
This year I’m going to lay my grass clippings over my garden and see how that goes.

It avoids the cooking you’re talking about.
it does insulate but at the same time it also helps maintain a stable temperature for the fermentation in the soil and amongst the mulch

one thing i can mention is that if you add sources of nitrogen to a pile of mulch it makes it cook hotter and faster (for example, stable litter or rabbet litter or similar, or guano, or just peeing on it) but yes the pile itself helps keep the temperature in optimal range

if you have a big problem with sun heat you can put almost anything on top to reduce that a bit, though black is probably not so effective
 sorry cuz!
 Agreed.

But im only covering slightly. Not a huge mulch pile over my garden. Ill rake some off before i plant next year
i will just say that mulch is great, but it can enrich the soil a lot to feed it sugars, molasses, whatever cheap carbs you can find, this is part of what the mulch is doing but it penetrates deeper sooner and it stimulates increase of population of bacteria and fungi inside the soil...

the mulch helps make it more hospitable for these tiny critters, and they are the life of the soil, far more important to the health of plants growing in it than mainstream chemical agriculture would let you know
 Fantástico
Se que debo dejar en azúcar, pero no lo hago 😌
