Today is Tuesday, #Artstr day.
& Our theme and challenge today:
Political ideologies, racism, and the pursuit of freedom
We love to continue with #Artstr and hope you will come along with us on our journey as well. @Nela and I will meet here every first and last Tuesday of the month and challenge each other. Also, we chitchat about art, and share interesting facts & fictions with you.
Art has long served as a beautiful reflection of political ideologies in the pursuit of artistic freedom. This is something I thought Nostr was first conceived upon. It has now woken up a few white catholic suppressed girls and boys who think they also know what it is all about. (They don’t). Art is the peaceful revolution within our world and always has been. For me artists like Kara Walker confront racism head-on, using provocative imagery to challenge societal norms. Ai Weiwei, through his activism and installations, critiques political oppression in China and beyond. Faith Ringgold's quilts and narrative paintings explore themes of race, identity, and social inequality, offering a powerful commentary on the African American experience. These artists dismantle conventional narratives, urging viewers to question power structures and societal constructs. Through their work, they provoke dialogue, challenge perceptions, and advocate for change, highlighting the interconnectedness of art, politics, racism, and freedom. These are the ways to really challenge freedom and maybe not posting nonsense.
So we would like you to use lots of different mediums, Painting, sketches, photo, cutout, poetry, musical piece, whatever best characterizes your art.
The work must be current, no shit A.I Art please that's the only requirement.

This is amazing.
Thank you. This was a series of my first photo manipulations when I was first learning photography in high school.
Have another one

What is Ex Machina?
Clarify if you're asking me about philosophy or my artwork
Art work. Have you seen Ex Machina?
I have. But I don't see where this is going?
Going nowhere :) That image reminds me of Ex Machina when he was building different versions of his AI and all the body parts he was putting together before he arrived at Ava. I responded using the Jeopardy game prompt 😁
Ahh
Lol
I was like well it's literally the machine like God in the machine. Like the against/on behalf of the machine.
I ain't no robot tho! Lol
Neither am I. I am 💯 human 🙂 I enjoyed your "The Fall" movie night a few months back. Eryn, literally my neighbor and meetup member, recommended it :)
Welcome back. We've had a few since then.😁
I made this in highschool when applying to college. Having to pick one race when I'm multiple and thinking "which one benefits me most in this situation? 🤔"
I'm sitting my body parts into the different check boxes. 🤷🏽
I hate labels. I'm just me. And people remember me for the world that I do, not because of my adjectives.
Those who are remembered for what they are rather than who they are will fade in the sands of time like the colors of the Greek and Egyptian statues.
May my works weather the eons.
A wish upon the stars. Amen 🙏

‘Rumors of War, 2019’ by Kehinde Wiley
Kehinde Wiley created this sculpture as a response to the Confederate-era monuments littered all across the US that serve no other purpose than to celebrate a failed resistance, white supremacy, and slavery.
Wrong piece of art, although still relevant to the topic.
Wonderful. Who is the Artist?
Cool to see #KehindeWiley getting love on here! 🔥🔥🔥 True #ART
Beautiful Artworks. Thanks to @apa for the discovery.
Amazing! Glad to hear you’re back at it. 💜 👏🏻🫂🙏

Yesterday, I needed a break from #Nostr. I was too upset and angry to participate in @Cortez significant and lovely #Artstr theme. The recent days here have shown me some of the worst, repulsive, misogynistic, and racist comments I've ever encountered. It remains unclear if this was a targeted attack or if a broader trend is unfolding.
Today, I am reflecting on the concept of freedom and considering both its positive and negative implications. I want to remain hopeful for empathy, solidarity, and technological progress to offer protection for users, specifically to the #Womenofnostr.

Lorna Simpson
In Same Two, Simpson uses the image of the braid as a signifier of shared experiences and cultural ties. Through eight photographs, connected in two rows, Simpson depicts a similar knotted hairstyle to the one in Back . However, this hairstyle is shown on two subjects with one long braid connecting the two. The text explores the similarities and differences between the two subjects. Both “knew illness” and “worked for the same pay,” but they “were not related” and “had never met.” Another phrase suggests workplace discrimination, in that both “were let go for the same reasons.” Simpson also alludes to the disproportionate amount of violence experienced by Black women and the fear it fosters: both subjects “read the news account and knew it could have easily been them.” The connection of the braid represents the links of shared experience and trauma among Black women, even if they do not know each other, turning the metaphorical bond into a physical one. The rope-like construction of the braid may also allude to the intergenerational trauma exacted by slavery.. https://image.nostr.build/26c9125013e7a18ea9fe5b7763a0430ad0310fe863760c6f8f4f0e1f9a3d83d1.jpg
I will leave here just this, a poem and a pic I took, somewhere is Lisbon...already covered with other stories. I would need time...for more...I choose the topic Freedom.

[as freedom is a breakfastfood]
BY E. E. CUMMINGS
"as freedom is a breakfastfood
or truth can live with right and wrong
or molehills are from mountains made
—long enough and just so long
will being pay the rent of seem
and genius please the talentgang
and water most encourage flame
as hatracks into peachtrees grow
or hopes dance best on bald men’s hair
and every finger is a toe
and any courage is a fear
—long enough and just so long
will the impure think all things pure
and hornets wail by children stung
or as the seeing are the blind
and robins never welcome spring
nor flatfolk prove their world is round
nor dingsters die at break of dong
and common’s rare and millstones float
—long enough and just so long
tomorrow will not be too late
worms are the words but joy’s the voice
down shall go which and up come who
breasts will be breasts thighs will be thighs
deeds cannot dream what dreams can do
—time is a tree(this life one leaf)
but love is the sky and i am for you
just so long and long enough"

I didn't know the poem but liked it straight away. After studying the content and a few interpretations, I noticed this one. I would like to share it with you : “At one point I thought of this poem in my desire to criticize commercial usurpation of words like “freedom”: The lack of intellectual or moral integrity involved in phony creativity with the misuse of words. But that also involved recognizing my own foolishness in wanting to make words sacred. I love the way Cummings brings out contradictions in being and seeming and time with such a cleaver feel.
I now think of the poem as a bow to the present. I love you now, in the present, whatever imagination and the future might bring. “just so long and long enough.”
Love the photography !
The photography I thought was appropriate to topic, cause freedom to be achieved, we need an open mind and flexibility....the intend is to provoque.
I understand the choice. The picture makes me think and delivers the message with an interesting look. It fits well to the poem.
