 @efa2e20e

That’s exactly what i do.
I just hate when they will force anyone to use it.
There should be a choice, ALWAYS.
That’s all.
 @19cbfccb

while 3G was switched off in many countries, I do believe that 4G/LTE will be running yet several years

so no worries
 @efa2e20e @19cbfccb 3g has been totally shut off here for a while and they are rapidly phasing out 4g. Our service is terrible since the switch happened. When I spoke with a customer who is part of Verizon’s infrastructure team, he told me that they are at least 2 years away from even being close to fixing the myriad issues they are having.
 @2a188b69

As per usual add the disclaimer "USA story" and "I probably dont live where many others live".

On some slopes here you can stream your snowboard stunts in 8K live over the air...
 @91f99226 if that is the case, I am jealous. Apparently the Chicagoland area doesn’t rate good service yet. Probably because we are a lost cause.
 @2a188b69 wait, you live in the city?!
 @91f99226 no. Northwest Indiana, about 45 min east of the city. But I am in and out of the city picking up parts for our business all the time.
 @2a188b69 ok look (TM)

45min. out of a city means you could be in a unrecoverable radio gap (Funkloch) in Switzerland. From all cities. No harm there. But if there are more than a few thousand living at that spot it becomes bizarre. Why is it that we have coverage in remote regions and many, many countries elsewhere don't?

 @91f99226 our county has a population of about a half a million people. My city alone has about 40k people. It’s purely a matter of the infrastructure cannot handle the traffic it is getting. Verizon did a shite job of prepping and executing the roll out.
 @2a188b69 and the other uh three/two/five?

Half a million equals half of my Canton with areas where city folk think who tf lives here lol

I can only explain this with corruption or genuinely missallocated funds for the woods. It happens here too, some minor number turns out to be not so minor and somebody has to correct...

Hackernews thinks that the US law needs to be changed so that a county can license/build their own.
 @91f99226 how large (in KM) is a Canton there? My city is roughly 28.9 km2. We have 500k people living within a 1000km2 area sharing a physical border with the 3rd largest city in the US. As far as corruption goes, it’s what politics is all about here. We call Cook County (Chicago) “Crook County” and our Lake County “Crook County East”.
 @2a188b69 to abbreviate where I live it is this
Many are smaller, many are denser.

 @2a188b69 Many parts in the South have bad coverage (meaning 3G or 4G). But overall the places where most are have imho perfect mobile Internet.

 @91f99226 and lol at “LOOK”. Snark is my native language so snark away, :)
 @2a188b69 when is 4g switch off date?
 @efa2e20e the 4g non VoLTe has been off since Dec31 2022 for Verizon. We were told that the rest of the 4g network would be “slowly phased out”. With no date. The thought was that customers using old hardware (iPhone 5/6 and older), would have time to upgrade. However the new network here is unstable and cannot handle the volume. I drop calls like crazy in the middle of town, when I used to have service pretty much everywhere before the switch.
