mencken's the one quoted as saying "the urge to save humanity is almost always a false face for the urge to rule it"
@Doc Scranton @2a48eef0 @bfd3d589 Sitting around all day is the most sought after goal of the communist utopia. They talk about it all the time and keep winning new converts because of that. Pulling one's own weight is their most abhorred anathema.
the sad truth of it is that people need to work to be happy, and fully automated gay luxury VR space communism will continue to be a mosh pit of people trying to get what each other have simply because they don't feel complete unless they're depriving someone else communism only works on paper because it dismisses core elements of human nature, assuming those behaviors can be re-educated out -- in practice, attempts to erase those behaviors leads to genocide
@Doc Scranton @2a48eef0 @bfd3d589 Communism always works. What it claims to seek is just a decoy to hide its true goals. The decoy goal is never supposed to be accomplished. The true goals get accomplished instead, by design.
@8853cd19 @Doc Scranton @bfd3d589 I disagree. I think people waltz into Communism because egalitarianism sounds good to them.
@8853cd19 @Doc Scranton @bfd3d589 I see it as having a more fundamental root: they want to avoid conflict. They would choose heat death over struggle.
@Doc Scranton @bfd3d589 In my view, he is right. People act in self-interest; for the best, that includes having a thriving civilization, protected nature, and connection to meaning (including but not necessarily the divine).
