My fixation on the GIF search/button thing has been like 10% because I do really love sharing GIFs, but like 90% symbolic about the inability of some devs here to adequately respond to user feedback. Sharing GIFs is nearly as universal an activity as sharing still photos. Users have been asking for the ability to do so easily for well over a year. If there’s a cost to it, discuss that. Feigning concern over centralization and users getting rugged of GIFs is about as stupid an argument as I can imagine. Listen to users, or don’t and they’ll eventually go elsewhere. That’s what I’ve done. Thankful for nostr that it gives regular users like me options to migrate activity.
I don’t have much skin in the game when it comes to GIFs or opinions on it. I don’t use them so I lack awareness. But legitimate question — is it an option to install a GIF keyboard app? That way you can use it on any iOS app, including Nostr iOS apps?
I had tried the giphy and tenor gif keyboards a while back but they didn’t work right. If I remember right, it inserted the wrong format of link and instead of embedding the gif in the note, the links would open in the external browser when tapped on.
Being able to vote with your feet is a huge benefit of Nostr.
Indeed. I’ll make a little noise in the process too though.
 I hear ya 😂🤝
 🎯

Even Bluesky has gif search now.
Right! It’s not like this is some crazy controversial feature request. It’s literally everywhere on every social media. If it’s a huge burden to implement, then name a reasonable price. I don’t have the slightest idea what it costs to code anything but I can tell you what I want as a user 😂🤷‍♂️

It shouldn’t even be that hard? Tenor and Giphy both have public APIs and documentation that even I, as a mere web developer/designer can figure out how to use.

The way nostr works, it’d basically just be a button that pulls up an iframe with search that then embeds a link in the post. That’s it.
 Something something censorship resistance
