well... this little shack costs me 700 euro/month, power, water, internet and gas included (has a gas cooktop in the kitchen)
IMO it's a bit expensive but there is high demand for property here, it's one of the things that the locals hate about being tethered to portugal, not being able to control that issue as much as they want to, and depending on tourism, which creates this problem
Good price compared to the rest of Europe! My primary choice for now is Malta, but it's complicated there, prices are too high... 1 bedroom apartment costs €1100 without internet and electricity
I'm starting to reconsider other places…
i've spent a bit over a month in malta, it's a shithole
also, prices are going up around here, this is really baseline... my previous place was 750 but i doubt you can find anything ... lemme look...
yeah, prices are like there, but this is better at least

yeah, i really scored getting this place, the saving i'm making alone lets me cover like 3 round trips by taxi to funchal
my advice is you need to be able to handle paying a higher rent at a more touristy accommodation for a few months, and bargains appear on https://idealista.pt and usually won't be on there for more than a week if they are really low prices
or if you can swing it to stay somewhere cheap outside of lisbon or something and then catch an "internal" (no international flight tax) to madeira to go inspect it and just fucking take it if you can... having good portuguese may help...
probably it's a similar thing all over the place in europe these days
what i will say tho, is that rents in former yugoslavia except for slovenia are really much cheaper, and some really nice locations... put it this way, i rented an apartment under the table in Sarajevo for 6 months for 220 euro a month about 2 years ago, i doubt the price has gone up much... it was a shitty commieblock but it wasn't terrible and there was a bathtub and a convenience store just outside the door nearby the main building entrance
Thank you so much for your advice. That's what I was thinking, staying for a while until I find a rental at a good price. I think another option would be to go in the winter, as I imagine the real estate sector relaxes during this time of year
no, there is no down season here
maybe the rents in places like i am in go down because it's so rainy but not on the other side of the island
Anyway, I'm going to do some more research on Madeira, it seems like a really good option
yeah, it's pretty decent here, maybe not next year so good
Really? I've heard that in the summer season it really sucks. But it seemed like a nice place to spend 1/2 a year
i was there in winter with nasty rains happening a lot
idk why it would suck in summer, sunny, dry, just lots of tourists i guess?
Yes, the island gets extremely crowded in the summer, queues at the markets, chaotic traffic... I think living away from the center should solve that
yeah, i only hung out between the airport and saint julian's where i was summoned... there is a red light district in that area, a friend of a friend was working one club there as a barman or something
i'd guess that i saw the urbanised parts, probably the outer areas are not so bad
I don't know it personally, but the parts outside the city center are extremely beautiful. There's an island called Gozö, it looks like a good place to stay
