I hear you. You'll get there through pain or you won't get there at all. I am not a nice person but I am a kind one so I hope severe pain as soon as possible. "Doing what I can from the inside" = staying with a husband who has repeatedly beaten a woman while praying for him, doing better, trying to please. It just makes the victim more tied to the abuser with intuition and self confidence offered on the altar of "I wish".
