 Hey is it okay to use baking soda to raise soil's pH or do I really need to go looking for lime? 
 @d0e09e5d never heard of doing this, I’d think the sodium in it would be a problem though 
 @d0e09e5d Yes, you can do that. It takes a couple days to leach onto the soil, but it works well. 
 @d0e09e5d I don't think we've ever done baking soda but you could use wood ash, too, if that's a resource you have at your disposal. 
 @d0e09e5d I would dilute it into a water solution. So as not to burn the plant. 
 @d0e09e5d I would guess no. Because you might load your soil with sodium.

baking soda is sodium bicarbonate
lime is mostly calcium carbonate
salt is sodium chloride

Excess sodium causes osmotic damage, will stunt plant growth. Water will not go into the plants roots if the sodium is too high.
