 @680dad18 I clearly described what I needed. They did run ethernet cable, but since "Facilities Management" controlled the wall sockets, they put in RJ11 (phone) instead of RJ45 (ethernet).

 @680dad18 so, of course I had a terminal emulator, and ethernet, but you do also need an RJ45 connector!
