NGC 346 is located within the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), a dwarf galaxy approximately 210,000 light-years from Earth. This star cluster is notable for containing a significant number of hot, young, blue stars, which are believed to represent more than half of the known high-mass stars in the SMC.
