Small island actually a competitive advantage for once, eg easy to roll out car chargers everywhere, coast line with wind power opportunities. Offer benefits to Green tech companies to set up here, entirely new tech industry might have flourished. Utterly squandered opportunity as usual.

Yes, I completely agree; we have the research capacity and the geographical location, but as you say it joins a growing list of squandered opportunities - we are a county whose aim is to shoot ourselves in the foot, again & again

So if we move our mindset from a Centralised Electricity Generation approach to a dispersed near use approach. Guess what you find most towns are near natural power sources, which is why they were there in the first place. Water and wind drive the agricultural and the industrial revolution, and could again.
