 It's amazing.
Thought it started strong and faded. Loved the book and several others by Clavell
Honestly, that seems to happen with alot of series.
Had good reviews. What's your take @Sergio?

I'm only on Episode 4. But, the cinematography alone is terrific, absolutely beautifully shot. I'm starting to see character development now also. I'm really liking it so far. I just hope it doesn't fizzle out like most shows do. Or die off and then pickup.
I'll keep yall posted 🫡
Sounds good. Will check it out. 🙏
The original TV series was a big hit back in the hayday of TV
"Shogun," a historical novel by James Clavell, was published in 1975 and later adapted into a television miniseries in 1980. The story is set in feudal Japan during the 16th century and revolves around the turbulent relationship between John Blackthorne, an English samurai turned trader, and Toranaga, a powerful daimyo (feudal lord) seeking to unify Japan under his rule.

The protagonist, John Blackthorne, is a cunning and resourceful adventurer who arrives in Japan on a trading vessel. He becomes embroiled in the affairs of the feudal lords and samurai, eventually taking up service with Toranaga. Blackthorne's conversion to Christianity and his knowledge of Western technology make him an invaluable asset to Toranaga's cause.

Toranaga, played by Richard Chamberlain in the miniseries, is a complex character with a deep understanding of politics and warfare. He is driven by ambition and a desire for power, but also possesses a certain degree of benevolence and wisdom. His relationship with Blackthorne is marked by mutual respect and trust, as well as tension and suspicion.

One of the main conflicts in the story arises from the struggle between Toranaga's faction and that of his rival, Lord Bontenmaru. The latter is a fierce warrior who opposes Toranaga's plan to unify Japan under his rule. Blackthorne finds himself caught between these two powerful figures, navigating their treacherous political landscape.

Another significant character in the novel and miniseries is Lady Mariko, a beautiful and intelligent geisha who becomes involved with both Toranaga and Blackthorne. Her loyalties are torn between her love for Toranaga and her attraction to Blackthorne.

The plot of "Shogun" involves intrigue, betrayal, warfare, and diplomacy as the various factions in Japan vye for power. It is a sweeping epic that explores themes of culture clash, religion, and political maneuvering against the backdrop of feudal Japan.

Overall, "Shogun" is a gripping historical novel and television miniseries that offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of 16th-century Japan and its complex politics and social structures.
