OpenAI just changed their API payment terms to pre-paid from end-of-month payments (I just got the email shortly after the Altman announcement).
Could be a coincidence, but seems like they probably had cash flow issues due to failure to collect payment for GPU hours and now the new CEO’s first action is to switch to pre-paid credits…

This is a crazy turn of events. He doesn’t fit the MS model but then why sell OpenAI to MS?? Especially with play then pay. That makes no sense knowing how quick expenses add up. So, maybe he has bigger visions and MS won’t let him play by his rules. I do believe MS has exclusive rights to nvidia chips to a large degree which is why I thought he went with MS in the first place. I’m hoping for more information!!! I read that ChatGPT costs something like $700,000 per day to operate. That doesn't count their other services, or salaries, marketing, etc... $21mil per month just for GPU hours for 1 product. How many premium subscriptions do you think they have sold realistically?
