He generally disliked it, but my grandfather found the carbine to have a similar report to the 7.7 Arisaka. As such, it was useful for getting enemy positions to expose their positions (thinking that they had begun firing on a target). He mostly disliked it due to it's oiled design that caused the firing pin to stick in extremely low temperatures (during the Battle of Chosin).
