"God became man so that man might become god." - St. Athanasius of Alexandria

All the reformed guys cringe and start foaming at the mouth 😅. Context context context, of which I will give you none.

Well now I feel bad lol...

Athanasius suggests that through the Incarnation, humanity is offered the possibility of communion with the divine, participating in God's divine nature. It doesn't mean humans become gods in the sense of being independent deities, but rather they share in the divine life and attributes through union with God.

In essence, this statement reflects the Christian understanding that Jesus, as both fully God and fully human, bridges the gap between humanity and divinity. Through this union, humans can partake in the divine life. Theosis involves the transformation of the human person, growing in holiness and conformity to God's will, ultimately leading to a union with God.

There. You get context and a GN
Bass, you're not in Australia are you? I literally heard this from an Orthodox Priest very recently. It's uncanny.
That was not clear... I was wondering out loud if you are the priest I was talking about that's why I asked 😅
 No, I'm USA 😊
A beautiful thing about the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Orthodox Church is that no matter where in the world you are, you can find the same faith ☦️
Some of us know other traditions. Give us some credit.
I dont doubt it, just a nudge for my reformed brothers who forget that there are traditions outside their own 🤭
John Calvin understood the doctrine. The problem is that there are lots of things that John Calvin understood that most Calvinists today do not.
