Fucked up the link while trying to remove tracking… But again, why is the Catholic Church like this? https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/16/us/archidiocese-los-angeles-abuse-settlement.html#:~:text=The%20settlement%20is%20the%20highest,to%20more%20than%20%241.5%20billion. nostr:note1rxleuqtl78xa063chwvrdx2sd4swds6z9mcm722uffvg5hdwsqus8w0v7q
Because they have a position of power over people, people put their trust in a human who has no natural paternal instinct to protect them. This trust gets abused. A man is supposed to be the king, priest and prophet of his household. A king provides and protects. A priest cleanses teaches and heals. A prophet can see shit coming. There is no high priest but one. From the order of Melchizedek. There is no priest in my house but me. I am responsible for my families wellbeing. Not some dinky old unduely venerated pervert. If someone breaks into my house he has me to deal with. If there is a mouldy growth on the ceiling above my childs bed I break it out and replace it. If my child has questions about life and their identity, I try to explain it to them. (Thank god for a good wife,) Widows and orphans are especially vulnerable to exploitation, and their causes should be pleaded. Don't bow to take sacraments from any human. Discipline yourself, castigate yourself, train yourself. Don't trust, Verify.
I don't think it is unique to the Catholic church. Any priestly order where men are not allowed to marry is a bad idea. nostr:nprofile1qqsp4lsvwn3aw7zwh2f6tcl6249xa6cpj2x3yuu6azaysvncdqywxmgprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctvq9n8wumn8ghj7enfd36x2u3wdehhxarj9emkjmn99ah8qatzx9e8gmr3vdsnsu3kv96hjcthx4hr26pnds6ngv3jv3kngumj0y6kg7nxv4jngd3exen8zefcwvm8zem4v34hxdmydf6xvuelvfex7ctyvdshxapaw3e82egpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejs5mzk3a is known to say that you become a man when you father a child. Which means that a celebate priesthood are a bunch of children pretending they can talk to god for you. Not a good idea imho.
@ToxicFemininity thoughts on allegations & the pay out? No mental gymnastics please lol
Yeah, gays shouldn’t be allowed in the church and the church shouldn’t have kept them in the church when they were found out. This isn’t a breakdown of the religion, it’s a breakdown of the humans that are supposed to steward the religion.
I agree. But why not have this same outlook on other religions when people do bad things?
Here are my additional thoughts: https://image.nostr.build/c5ad83ae3ad6b2112952c95ad795973ef995627888c07f5782a6225a0040ca41.jpg
wow.
Yeah, I mean this isn’t a per capita comparison and I assume the church has many less employees. But still.
It would be more accurate to present stats as a ratio rather than total number given public school is a much larger population
Soooo you’re making excuses for public schools? Seems like you’re running some mental gymnastics now.
Lol. You’re ok with 30k instances a year but want to harp on 200. WTF?? Mental gymnastics regardless of per capita issues.
No I just understand how people can play with statistics if you ignore the population size (like what they did with COVID) But also, why are you comparing the religion to public schools in the first place? Your whole premise is that Christianity is the perfect religion and only the other religions do bad things. So shouldn’t the yearly rate be zero?
You should reread what I said because you haven’t learned what the premise is.
