Imagine how much coal/oil/natural gas would be needed if we simply built out the nuclear/solar/wind infrastructure to their maximum realistic capacity. Almost none. And after a while of operation, we would go carbon negative.
It gets better! With Thorium and various 4th generation designs of reactors, the "waste problem" that all the anti-nuke folks harp on about shrinks with time to become a non-problem. Most high- and medium-intensity radioactive waste can be "burnt" to produce energy. Nuclear reactors can also supply a lot of thermal heat for industrial processes, fx. "PtX", that is, Hydrogen generation.
