How do y’all feel about zoos? When I was in middle school, I decided they were immoral and told my parents I didn’t want to go to them anymore. But it’s so normalized and especially encouraged to young children. My son has multiple books that were gifted to us about zoos. And his grandparents are taking him to one today. I’m excited for him, I know he’s going to have the best time. But it still feels… off to me. How can it be ok to cage live beings?
def a no go for me. when we had a school trip I refused to enter the zoo with my students. went to walk in a park instead. everyone were surprised and after we had a discussion imagining what would it feel like to stay at your house. a really nice house with food and all kind of toys, but not being able to leave the house ever. everyone agreed that it'a not a great life at all.
That’s such a wonderful way to handle that situation. Your school didn’t take issue with you doing that?
we had enough teachers to take care of the class, but still, they did try to convince me to go in. our head of department knew that I'm a vegetarian and into all this meditation story, so it was not soo hard to explain myself and skip the zoo 🧘🏻♂️😁
