@3e6503cb The wattage is just for transmit. Reception is only as good as whatever is transmitting. You may know this but a lot of beginners crammed for the ham test and did not actually learn the material. @30b2770b @155b2d62
@Julius D Haversack Ah, yes. I bought the radio for an emergency. I have not tried to connect to any repeater since I am not licensed. You are correct. Sorry I left that info out of my post. I am creating lists grouping frequencies together for fast loading. I am enjoying the radio so far. I really want sda100 scanner. @155b2d62 @30b2770b
@3e6503cb Changing the antenna of a tranciever affects both tx and rx but understanding the difference (and effect) is important, since a “better” antenna can sometimes make it worse for one’s use case @155b2d62 @30b2770b
@Julius D Haversack I've noticed the signal stick gives me s veral channels of static that are not there will he the stock ant.
@3e6503cb Probably just enough reception to notice there’s something. for TX in particular, length of antenna has effects related to wavelength, but I’ve found RX to be more forgiving. It’s been a long time since I learned the stuff and while licensed, I don’t use it enough to be confident without my stuff in front of me.
@Julius D Haversack I can't remember half of this stuff. That's the hard part. I'm going to have my license by the end of 2024.
@3e6503cb do it faggot
@Julius D Haversack excuse me?
@3e6503cb https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/do-it-faggot A way of implying you won’t do it so you feel the need to prove me wrong. In this case, it is in the “Suggestion” case listed above.
@Julius D Haversack I see. Never heard of this one.Sorry
@3e6503cb Not a problem. Happy to clarify.
@Julius D Haversack TY!
@3e6503cb really though, I do strongly encourage you to do it. Of all the tests I’ve taken, this was easy and opens some weird doors sometimes. In my case it gave me extra money every paycheck. $25 I think and the test was quite cheap, so it paid for itself almost instantly. Plus the renewal is something like ten years.
@Julius D Haversack What do you do for a living?
@3e6503cb Tech.
@Julius D Haversack I spent 17 years as a scanner enthusiast. Some of the info I already know. It should be easy to pass. I'd really like to be a technician by the end of 2024. This would be cool!
@Julius D Haversack You made me very curious last night. When the Mt Wilson Repeater went quiet for an hour I tried keying up. for just one second. I was able to connect to it and heard it disconnect. I'm 19 miles from another repeater and can activate that too. Doesn't mean they can hear what I say, but I think that is something good to note.
