 US fourth-quarter economic growth revised slightly lower
==========

The U.S. economy grew at a 3.2% annualized rate in the fourth quarter of 2023, slightly lower than the previously reported 3.3% pace, according to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis. The downward revision was due to a downgrade in private inventory investment. Inflation was mild, but revised slightly up from previous estimates. Retail sales, housing starts, durable goods orders, and factory production declined in January, indicating a loss of momentum. Economists are not forecasting a recession. Financial markets expect the Federal Reserve to start cutting interest rates in June. Since March 2022, the Fed has raised its policy rate by 525 basis points to the current range of 5.25%-5.50%.
