Completely different from what I'm talking about. I want to use my phone as a UI to control a device in the room, as if the device itself had a touch-screen. You implement the menu software etc on your device, but don't need to include the screen which is expensive and only used once or twice a year.

IPP printers have a web interface where you can control the settings. 

I'm with you. I don't understand why I need to install a mobile app just to get the printer on the network and register with the manufacturer for automatic ink subscription.
