what VPN protocol are you using? I had openvpn and was getting throttled to 2mbps from 1gbps. with wireguard the loss is negligible 

 Was using openvpn yeah , mullvad doesn’t support application whitelisting, but maybe I can hack something with iptables. 

 you do split tunneling at the router level with pfsense
