Many people don't understand the difference between conspiracy and conspiracy theory.

A conspiracy theory also does not need to be void of fact or reason, nor does it need to 100% accurate to be useful. Many crime investigations begin with conspiracy theories that are adjusted as the facts are discovered. 

 The events of the last week have shown a large majority of people just want to be told comforting lies.

The entire political divide boils down to people who engage with reality as it is and those that accept the reality of their choosing.
