Guys this is why "censorship resistance" aspect of Nostr actually does matter. Even if it doesn't win for the initial sell, it matters for the long term of it actually working.

I probably need a translation of what that quoted post means. But I believe you.
i can't even see said post

The premise is wrong anyway. Pleroma was meant to be more lightweight than Mastodon so it could run on lower end hardware and for this to be achieved there's always going to be give and take. FSE was a hw issue and SPC was running a very customised version of the sw. Mastodon also pulls in a huge amount of money in donations whereas Pleroma doesn't so the sw hasn't been maintained as well as one would like. Akkoma is the trans fork of pleroma because the dev team weren't woke enough and might be even more poorly maintained (I assume because the devs keep killing themselves).
Basically Fediverse websites shutting down or getting shut down and the userbase getting wiped out as a result. It's like dropping a nuke on an entire country in some cases.
mastadoon was VETTED server - nothing fucking decentralized
WOT is also like REDIT now - new comers need vetted to join not sure if auto grow themselves
what if someone in not within someone trust
Nobody gonna censor nostr if nobody important is saying anything that is worth censoring

Most of this shit is gm anyways lmao who cares about censoring that

Censorship resistance is only tested once the censors apply pressure
Free speech ain't for talking about the weather.
The truth is that Nostr is, by design, at least somewhat resistant to corporate censorship, but probably not governmental censorship, at least not alone.
Luckily, a lot of censorship *is* done by corporations, not for compliance with the law, but merely as a matter of company policy, so this makes Nostr quite useful.

For there to be resistance, however, people need to actually care. Developers of clients and admins of relays alike have to care. They have to have free speech as a goal.
Everyone has the right to develop clients in any way and censor anything on their own relays. But the best contribution to the ecosystem is one that maximizes freedom of speech and the general culture should hold free speech as the goal.
This would make the system resistant to those attempts to censor which would still exist.

I think it'd be nice to have public free relays run by trusted non-profits with free speech as the stated mission.
Destiny for freedom tech: doomed to fail or devs go to jail. Look at samurai, tornado cash, silk road, wikileaks, and any attempt of digital currency before Bitcoin.

If nostr does not grow and is not a threat to elites then all this talk is hot air to make ourselves feel like we’re doing something important.

The theory doesn’t matter if what we’re doing doesn’t matter. Nostr is a bunch of plebs saying gm and trying to make a friendly social atmosphere not actually an attempt to empower ourselves by undermining those with real power (like wikileaks). Your talk of censorship resistance is all theory until someone tries to censor.
“Event is loading or can't be found in your relay list.”

Focus on getting nostr to actually work reliably and not depend on a handful of relays first... self-censorship is embarrassing.

Is @p on nostr, or is he still being obstinate?
Censorship resistance is the ONLY selling point of Nostr.

Without it. Fuck Nostr. Might as well be Instagram.
I agree that's the main thing.
I remember someone saying "zaps" are the main/only innovation of Nostr. Bullcrap. It's about free speech, or, at least, it should be.

Yeah the unfortunate destiny for freedom tech development: doomed to fail or devs go to jail.

I think it’s a good attempt, but people are trying to build a friendly fun social for their friends, not wikileaks type platform exposing war crimes or uncomfortable truths that elites want to hide, and that normies are uncomfortable with.

The problem social devs are solving simply does not require censorship resistance if nobody is saying anything controversial…
