 I regret to inform you that I have ordered 2 2012 Mac minis with 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM and quad-core i7 b/c I’m a hoarder and these are cheaper than getting an #RPi4. $61 a pop. I’m so weak! https://mastodon.social/@orchardresales/111172133890410367
 @e2d8748d what's the OS of choice for said machines? Old version of macOS or some Linux variant for server work?

Been debating picking up an old mini but still looking for an excuse...I mean use case…
 @e2d8748d Are these the one with the soldered RAM?
 @e2d8748d You're a predator. Now I've got one with those specs en route
 @e2d8748d whoa I already have one of these beasts but at that price I could get another to strap it to my chest and call it a cyberdeck
 @e2d8748d fucking hell. <fires up arch wiki> :)
 @e2d8748d Thanks! I had to do that too. I’ve been wanting a cheap Mac mini media server and $75 including shipping is going to make that possible.
 @e2d8748d Welp, for that price it’s like how could I not buy one?

I have no use for one, but one is on its way.
 @e2d8748d Brings back the memories of the Core Solo Mac mini I bought with a cheapo flat panel display as my Intel testing machine.

Later had to pry the damn thing open with a putty knife to upgrade the RAM, and managed to put it back together but forgot to plug the Airport card back in, so I had to pry it apart a second time. Ah, the good old days…
 @e2d8748d That's better than my Macbook Pro! I was too slow though.
 @e2d8748d WOW! Never thought of that. I have a 27” 2011 iMac with 17gb and 512SSD that I absolutely love but it’s capped at High Sierra. What distro of Linux should I try?
 @e2d8748d thanks for letting us know!
 @e2d8748d Nice! Crazy cheap for what you get, and theoretically more flexible than a Pi since you can stick just about any x86 operating system on them. I use an old Mac mini to run Proxmox. For personal/home needs it’s plenty.
