The tree it came from didn’t have any fruit. It is quite a dark wood though, not sure if it’ll lighten when dried

I think it’s most likely European beech, though it’s darker than examples I’ve seen. Maybe it’ll lighten when dried 🤷♂️ I’m a n00b to woodworking etc!

I think the bark is too smooth to be elm and the leaves have smooth edges
