I see your posts 🧐
Yeah and so what ?
Nice 1
Already an issue for employment contracts. Undisclosed social media accounts being terms for dismissal.
Yikes. Nostr came just in time.
Nostr doesn’t count as social media since we’re all psychopaths on here. We’re safe. Yay
Also would you remember your npub in an interview?
is that even legal?
Yes. HR standard practice to do a online search for anyone interviewing. It is not uncommon for them to ask for passwords. It is legal because you don’t “have” to work there. But moving forward it could be standard for everyone. See blacklists from the 1950s.
while they have the right to stalk your public presence (and hence ask for your social media account id) but asking for passwords is already illegal in many nations https://www.mondaq.com/canada/privacy-protection/781940/can-your-employer-ask-for-the-passwords-to-your-social-media-accounts
The real question is would you work for a company that did that? Also I don’t even know my pin on my credit card, you want a password from when i was 21? So do i, I liked that account.
And there’s the kicker. Non-disclosure upon request is grounds to disqualify a candidate. Discovered accounts that are not disclosed is also grounds for disqualification during hiring process and if hired prior to discovery, termination based on “integrity” concerns due to failure to disclose.
To feed my family yes. I wish I could say absolutely not but when other people are at stake things get too easy to just ignore unfortunately.
I have yet to face such a dilemma, don’t see it on my radar either. My kids may have issues as they enter the workforce, i better teach them proper internet security.
Absolutely! A healthy amount of skepticism and spinal fortitude to resist norms goes along way too.
“Super Hero secret” aliases when young, no beer/weed/nudity/debauchery photos when you're older. I look like I have chronic back pain cause I am holding beers behind me in so many photos
I wish I had that wisdom 5 years ago.
I was raised on 56k internet, gizmo from Gizmos & gadgets was my first nym. In 2012 I sat in a hotel conference room and have a guy pointed to the CCTV camera “I am not scared of this, it's if something bad happens, they can review.” He pulled out his cell “this things will post my best friends keg stand live, & make sure Susan gets that promotion that he wants in 15 yrs”
I’ve declared bankruptcy email bankruptcy so many times. Lol.
Lol in the mid-oughts my mom came home after her first day of work back from 2 week vacation, said she deleted ~5k unread emails. “Either its been fixed, or i will be informed promptly upon my return this week”
That’s a brave woman
Different times, she was working an IT help desk.
It’s true, if it really is important that will follow up.
It’s not worth thinking about until someone mentions it twice? 😂
Proof of work, you get it. 🙂
I haven’t either but I’m giving honest self reflection. I am trying to avoid that situation all together. I have no social media accounts. No online pictures or presence. Just a random pleb nym on nostr. Long term I want to opt out with bitcoin and not have to play their reindeer games.
You're kidding!? How vulnerable do you have to be to consent to give your credentials to whatever to your employer? If you want to hire a slave, ask for that stuff.
Employers are looking for compliance during this process, obviously. Not just the information being asked for. A compliant employee is better than a non-compliant employee from their perspective.
I don’t think it’s that deep. They just don’t want bad PR if they happen to hire a very vocal Neo Nazi or something. They could give a damn about the president it sets as long as their interests are protected
I’m not guessing. Speaking from first hand experience. This is what I walked away from. Future PR concerns are an issue, for sure but not that this point in the process. The main objective is to find candidates willing to comply with proving information (more eager the better). And then, and only after compliance, thinning the candidate pool by evaluating past ethics (criminal history/past employment references), then experience, and lastly personality (interview).
Who cares about this?
This is actually a reality at immigration today. You have to disclose your social media accounts.
which immigration sir?
Into US last I checked. Was a while ago. They had those questions of the forms
ah ok. never had a visa to US so i didnt realised it is that strict nowadays to past borders
https://cln.sh/0k1H5KTG Screenshot of online form part
thankfully it is still on a voluntary basis, for now. haha
No I don’t think it is. Required.
